Volkswagen is prepping a slew of new Tiguans that should bolster the automaker’s sparse lineup of SUVs. After Volkswagen debuts its Tiguan Coupe in 2017, the automaker plans to offer a range-topping Tiguan Coupe R the following year, according to Autocar.
The Tiguan Coupe R will feature a 2.0-liter gas engine tuned similarly to the Golf R, which produces 292 hp. Just like the performance hatch, the Tiguan Coupe R will also pack 280 lb-ft of torque and will be mated to a six-speed dual clutch automatic. The two “R” models will likely achieve similar performance in straight-line tests. When we tested the VW Golf R earlier this year, it managed to hit 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds.
