Global Rallycross racing is one of the most exciting race formats to watch – short, intense qualifying heats, lots of contact, and there is always one big ramp jump built into the course. When Emme Hall was asked if she wanted a ride with Tanner Foust, driver of the No. 34 Rockstar Energy Drink Volkswagen Beetle GRC fielded by the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team, there was no way to contain her excitement.

Foust drives a VW Beetle specially prepared for the Red Bull Global Rallycross (GRC) series. The 2.0-liter turbocharged motor sends 540 horsepower to all four wheels and it has approximately 12 inches of suspension travel. Zero to sixty mph happens in 1.9 seconds, a lot faster than anyone can chug a Rockstar Energy Drink.

I’m In Germany To See Beetles And The VW Museum Of My Dreams

vw museum

I’m pretty excited, sitting here at the airport. I think it’s apparent, because so far two women have changed seats to be away from me and a mom warned her child to steer clear of ‘that weird little man.’ But I don’t care. I’m on my way to the a big Beetle festival and a museum I’ve wanted to visit ever since i was a car-geeky kid.

The Beetle festival is called the Beetle Sunshine Tour, a Volkswagen event that, I’ll be honest, I don’t know all that much about, yet. I think it’s more Euro-focused (I believe I’m the only US journalist headed over), and while it may be to showcase modern, Golf-in-costume Beetles, I was assured there would be plenty of the old clattery air-cooled VWs I love.

Report: Volkswagen Tiguan Coupe R on the Way

Tiguan coupe

Volkswagen is prepping a slew of new Tiguans that should bolster the automaker’s sparse lineup of SUVs. After Volkswagen debuts its Tiguan Coupe in 2017, the automaker plans to offer a range-topping Tiguan Coupe R the following year, according to Autocar.

The Tiguan Coupe R will feature a 2.0-liter gas engine tuned similarly to the Golf R, which produces 292 hp. Just like the performance hatch, the Tiguan Coupe R will also pack 280 lb-ft of torque and will be mated to a six-speed dual clutch automatic. The two “R” models will likely achieve similar performance in straight-line tests. When we tested the VW Golf R earlier this year, it managed to hit 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds.

Reaction To Its Facebook Video Inspires VW To Create Baby Stroller With Automatic Brakes

stroller brakes

Back in April, VW Netherlands posted an ad on Facebook featuring vehicle owners who wondered why other items — such as strollers, bikes, gerbil cages and toy doors — don’t have the same awesome features a VW does. That ad garnered over half a million views.

One Facebook commenter wondered aloud why baby strollers don’t have automatic brakes. After all, if cars can have them, surely baby strollers can, too.

VW Renewable Diesel Test Finds Same Drivability, Lower Carbon Emissions

Three years ago, Volkswagen announced that it was testing two different types of renewable diesel fuel in a pair of its TDI diesel-engined cars sold in the U.S.

Now, the company says it has finished its testing, and the results are in.

The renewable fuel gave the same performance as conventional crude oil-based diesel, and cut wells-to-wheels carbon dioxide emissions by about 50 percent, VW said.

Should Volkswagen Bring Back the Corrado Sports Coupe?

Spoiler alert: This article is about an artistic rendering of what an artist things an updated version of the car would look like, not an official release from Volkswagen. But since it’s a cool looking update of a VW model, here’s the story . . . :

volkswagen-corrado-render-1

Fast, fun, and desperately good looking – the Volkswagen Corrado hasn’t been a member of the automaker’s new car lineup for two decades. While it probably hasn’t hurt VW’s bottom line, it’s dearly missed by its legion of cult followers.

We’d love to say this striking design is a new version but sadly it isn’t. It’s the recent digital manipulation of render artist Theophilus Chin, and it wonderfully pieces together what a next-generation Corrado could look like if one were waiting in the wing.

VW’s New Gran Santana Is A Funny Little Thing

Sorry, this one isn’t available here in the states, but it’s still a Volkswagen, and that’s what this blog is about. So, enjoy . . .

vw-gransantana-livepics-10

If you live in China and thought that the regular VW Santana (sedan) wasn’t the car for you, try this Skoda Spaceback-like thing on for a change.

No, this is definitely not a unique model in any way. It’s not a new model either, if you’re thinking globally. For China though, this is quite the treat since they’re so used to sedans over there.
